Shoulder and Elbow Research

At Tyks Orto, the areas of shoulder and elbow research include shoulder instability, rotator cuff disorders, osteoarthritis, and fractures. The aim of the research is to investigate the effectiveness, impact, and safety of surgical treatments for the shoulder and elbow. The ultimate goal is to implement the results into clinical practice and improve the value of patient care.

Ongoing Research Projects

  • Operative treatment of acute rotator cuff tear related to trauma a placebo-controlled efficacy trial (ACCURATE)
    • This trial is set out to investigate the difference in efficacy of rotator cuff repair in the treatment of symptomatic supraspinatus tears after trauma.
  • Operative treatment of traumatic anteroinferior shoulder instability in young male patients (FINNISH Trial) – The outcome of arthroscopic Bankart vs. open Latarjet stabilization surgery
    • This trial is set out to investigate the difference in effectiveness between arthroscopic Bankart and open Latarjet procedure in the treatment of shoulder instability.
  • Scandinavian Olecranon Research in the Elderly a Randomized, Controlled Non-Inferiority Trial (SCORE)
    • This trial is set out to study the difference between non-operative treatment of traumatic olecranon fractures and the commonly used operative treatment, either with tension band wiring or plate fixation, in elderly population.
  • Treatment of Atraumatic Rotator Cuff Rupture in Elderly Patients (ATRAUMA)
    • This trial is set out to investigate the difference in effectiveness between 1) physiotherapy, 2) acromioplasty+physiotherapy and 3) rotator cuff repair+acromioplasty+physiotherapy in the treatment of atraumatic symptomatic supraspinatus tears.
